Arquiste Parfumeur Aleksandr y Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur – Violetas sobre cuero

Quizás lo que más me atrae sea el contraste entre flor frágil y material robusto, pero la de violetas y cuero siempre ha sido una de mis combinaciones preferidas. O tal vez sea porque trae al presente mis años jóvenes (caballos sudorosos, monturas, heno). Lo cierto es que el dúo violeta–cuero me huele a libertad y romanticismo.

Estas notas, por supuesto, pueden se presentadas de muchas maneras. Ya hemos mencionado el icónico Jolie Madame, un perfume que a pesar de su nombre es perfectamente apto para caballeros. Opciones más modernas de violetas con cuero son Aleksandr, de Arquiste, y Cuir Pleine Fleur, de Heeley.

Aleksandr -colaboración entre Carlos Huber y el nariz Yann Vasnier– es una fogosa mezcla inspirada en el duelo en el cual el poeta Alexander Pushkin resultara mortalmente herido. Me gusta pensar en él como un retrato olfativo. Aunque fogosa en carácter, la fragancia es fresca. Puede resumirse en un breve pero nítido soplo de eau de toilette perfumada a la violeta, la cualidad glacial de la nieve (quizás un vaso de vodka, bebido para instilar coraje?) y el olor amargo del cuero de Rusia.

Si Aleksandr es un retrato (y como tal insinúa rasgos de personalidad y describe el atuendo del protagonista así como su entorno) entonces el más hierático (y lineal) Cuir Pleine Fleur es un bodegón. Depurado y elegante, este suave cuero aparece cubierto por una miríada de flores que le otorgan un tinte ligeramente dulzón. El cuero es gamuza; las violetas, se pintan verdes y rodeadas de hojas. Sereno y discreto, Cuir Pleine Fleur es, sin embargo, dinámico: florece ante la nariz como un día de primavera en el campo. Es también lo más próxima que he estado a recobrar los olores de mi infancia; lo venero por eso. Aunque su evolución es lineal, la proyección y longevidad son excelentes.

Arquiste Parfumeur Aleksandr and Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur – Violets on leather

Maybe what appeals to me is the contrast between fragile flower and tough  material, but violets and leather has always been one of my favorite pairings. Or perhaps it is because it seems to bring my younger years back (sweaty horses, saddles, hay). In any event the violet–leather combination smells to me of freedom and romanticism.

These notes, of course, can be showcased in many ways. We have already mentioned the iconic Jolie Madame, a fragrance that despite its name is perfectly suited for a gentleman. More modern violet-leather offerings are Aleksandr, by Arquiste, and Cuir Pleine Fleur, by James Heeley.

Aleksandr -a collaboration between Carlos Huber and nose Yann Vasnier– is a fiery blend inspired by the duel in which poet Alexander Pushkin was mortally wounded. I like to think of it as an olfactory portrait. Though fiery in character, the fragrance is crisp. It can be summarised by a brief but vivid whiff of violet scented eau de toilette, the iciness of snow (perhaps a glass of vodka, drunk to instill courage?) and the bitter smell of Russian leather.

If Aleksandr is a portrait (and as such hints at personality traits and describe the character’s outfit and surroundings), then the more hyeratic (and linear) Cuir Pleine Fleur is a still life. Streamlined and elegant, this soft leather seems covered with a myriad flowers that lend a slightly sweetish touch. The leather is suede, the violets are green and leafy. Quiet and discreet, Cuir Pleine Fleur is still very much alive: it blooms before my nose like a Spring day in the countryside. It is also the closest I have ever come to recovering the smells of my childhood, thus I worship it. Although its evolution is linear, projection and longevity are excellent.
