Cada noviembre, durante nuestra primavera, los jacarandás florecen en toda la hermosa y caótica Buenos Aires. Al caer, sus flores forman alfombras color lavanda sobre las veredas. Fueguia 1833 bautizó a una de sus fragancias -un chipre– con el nombre de este emblemático árbol.
Jacarandá -el perfume- en su concentración eau de parfum (16%) se siente ligero y vivaz. Es simple y delicado, casi como un boceto en verde. Estoy segura de que en su versión absolu ( alrededor de 30%) -que no he probado- debe oler bastante más robusto.
Si bien Jacarandá no resulta extremadamente complejo y sombrío comparado con los chipres de comienzos del siglo XX, por suerte tampoco huele tan alejado del género como los denominados chipres modernos. Siempre pensé en los chipres como una familia seria, formal y algo solemne. Jacarandá perfectamente podría ser el hijo menor de esa familia…el que irrumpe en carcajadas en momentos inesperados y empieza a cantar en los largos viajes en auto, el que llega tarde a la mesa porque se quedó en el jardín atrapando luciérnagas.
Jacarandá contiene bergamota de Calabria (D.O.C.), absoluto de musgo de roble – rectificado para cumplir con las regulaciones de la IFRA – patchouli y cistus (absoluto y aceite esencial orgánico). Hay un no sé qué estimulante y despreocupado en esta fragancia, algo con sensación de vacaciones, que provoca ganas de bailar y cantar…quizás sea la frescura de la bergamota, la cualidad terrosa del patchouli o, quizás, el delicioso carácter amaderado y ahumado del musgo de roble. Me aventuraría a adivinar que la mimosa también forma parte de la mezcla.
Jacarandá se superpone de maravillas con otras fragancias, especialmente con Juan Manuel -todo rosas y pimienta rosa– para obtener un chipre con tintes de, por supuesto, rosas y con el exuberante floral blanco Dos Gardenias.

Fueguia 1833 Jacarandá – A light and lively chypre
Every November, on our Spring, jacarandás bloom all over the beautiful and chaotic Buenos Aires. As their flowers fall, they form lavender-colored carpets on the pavement. Fueguia 1833 has named one of their fragrances -a chypre– after this emblematic tree.
Jacarandá -the fragrance- in its eau de parfum concentration (16%) feels light and lively. It is simple and delicate, almost like a sketch in green. I am sure the absolu concentration ( about 30%) -which I haven’t tried- smells more robust.
If Jacarandá doesn’t seem extremely complex and somber compared to early 20th century chypres, then -thank goodness- it does not smell as far from the genre as the so-called modern chypres either. I have always thought of chypres as a serious, formal and somewhat solemn family. Jacarandá could very well be the youngest child in that family…the one who bursts with laughter at unexpected moments and starts singing in long car trips, the one that arrives late to the table because he was in the garden catching fireflies.
Jacarandá contains Calabrian bergamot (D.O.C.), oakmoss absolute – rectified in order to comply with IFRA regulations- patchouli and cistus (both absolute and organic essential oil).There is something exhilarating and carefree about this fragrance, something that feels like a holiday, that makes its wearer want to dance and sing…maybe it is the freshness of the bergamot, the earthiness of patchouli or, perhaps, the delicious smoky woodiness of the oakmoss. I would venture to guess mimosa is part of the equation too.
Jacarandá layers beautifully over other fragrances. It works especially well paired with Juan Manuel -which is all about roses and pink pepper– for a rosy chypre and with the lush white floral Dos Gardenias.
