Dior Diorella (vintage) – Glorioso chipre frutado

 Edmond Roudnitska fue un visionario, un genio adelantado a su época y un prolífico compositor. Entre las joyitas que creó se cuenta Le Parfum de Therese (muy avant-garde para los 1950s con su nota de melón), Femme, Eau d’Hermes, el emblemático Diorissimo (aún hoy la fragancia contra la que se miden todos los demás muguets) y Eau Sauvage. Y, por supuesto, Diorella.

Este último es quizás el perfume que mejor encarna el estilo de perfumería del Sr. Roudnitska. También se rumorea que fue su creación favorita. Cuando avisté una botella de eau de cologne y otra de extracto, no pude resistir la tentación. Se dice que Diorella es la contraparte femenina de Eau Sauvage aunque, la verdad sea dicha, ambos son perfectamente unisex.

Diorella presenta una salida punzante, con limón, bergamota y albahaca. Es también agradablemente refrescante de una manera tradicional (nada de notas marinas u ozónicas). El ciclamen, la madreselva y el jazmín tienen una fuerte presencia en la mezcla, aunque entretejidos con melón y durazno. El jazmín es especialmente indólico y redondea la composición. Las frutas se perciben como carnosas y muy maduras, casi goteando néctar.

El aspecto indólico del jazmín y la adición de almizcle brindan una cierta cualidad animal que vuelve la mezcla sorprendentemente sensual para un perfume tan refrescante. Diorella sin embargo, lleva su sex-appeal con desenfado.

No he olido Diorella en su encarnación actual. Ruego a Dios esperando que honre la memoria del original.

Dior Diorella – Glorious fruity chypre

Edmond Roudnitska was a visionary, a genius ahead of his time and a prolific composer. Among the gems he created one can count Le Parfum de Therese (quite avant-garde for the 1950′s with its melon note), Femme, Eau d’Hermes, the iconic Diorissimo (still the fragrance against which all other lily of the valleys are measured) and Eau Sauvage. And, of course, Diorella.

The latter is probably the fragrance that best embodies Mr. Roudnitska‘s perfumery style. It is also rumored to have been his favorite creation. When I spotted a bottle of eau de cologne and another one of extrait, I couldn’t resist the temptation. Diorella is said to be the feminine counterpart to Eau Sauvage although, really, both of them are perfectly unisex.

The opening is sharp, with lemon, bergamot and basil. It is also pleasantly refreshing in a traditional way (no marine or ozonic notes). Cyclamen, honeysuckle and jasmine are strongly present in the composition though interwoven with melon and peach. The jasmine is especially indolic and adds roundness to the blend. The fruits seem fleshy and overripe, almost dripping with juice. 

The indolic aspect of the jasmine and the addition of musk give a certain animalic quality which renders Diorella surprisingly sensual for such a fresh fragrance. She, however, carries her sex-appeal with nonchalance.

I haven’t smelled Diorella in its current incarnation but I pray to God it honors the memory of the original.
