Puredistance Black – Terciopelo y humo

Cuando una casa ofrece un rango pequeño y sólido en el que cada perfume exuda calidad, una se vuelve ansiosa ante las noticias de un nuevo lanzamiento. La espera para olisquearlo se hizo más larga que nunca; lo fue de hecho, porque el Sr. Cartero tardó el doble de tiempo en llegar a mi puerta con la preciada muestra.

Puredistance, una vez más, no defrauda. Su creación más reciente, Black, está a la altura de la belleza moderna aunque de proporciones clásicas de I, Antonia, M y Opardu. El nuevo perfume se corresponde con el lema “elegancia atemporal “de la casa, aunque se siente más contemporáneo que sus predecesores. Esta vez la marca eligió no revelar notas ni ingredientes y permitir que el foco se desplace hacia las sensaciones que la fragancia provoca en cada usuario. “Imagine. Huela. Sienta. No analice” es el Leitmotiv. Black fue compuesto por el nariz Antoine Lie (Vice President Parfumeur Senior en Takasago),creador -entre otros- del infame y revolucionario Secretions Magnifiques. A no temer, el nuevo Puredistance no es tan polarizante ni por asomo.

La impresión inicial es de caos: la fogosa salida arde con notas de chile, canela y cardamomo verde, pronto superpuesta por el amargor del azafrán y ajenjo. Un ahumado toque de oud domina la mezcla por un rato y marca su carácter. No soy especialmente devota del oud, pero el efecto aquí es moderado y alcanza para tender un velo de misterio. El efecto del todo es opaco pero liviano y refinado. Mientras acerco la nariz a la muñeca no puedo sacarme de la cabeza imágenes de Bogart y Bacall. La progresión es tersa como el terciopelo. A medida que se torna más suave, hacia el fondo, vainilla, tabacco y tonka aseguran un dulzor afelpado, pero  la oscuridad nunca se desvanece por completo.

Como mujer, puedo usar Black con más comodidad que el curtido M, pero aún así prefiero olerlo sobre un hombre amado o un extraño guapo.

Black se encuentra disponible sólo en concentración parfum (25% de aceite); su proyección y longevidad son irreprochables.

Puredistance Black – Velvet and smoke

When a house offers a small, solid range in which every fragrance oozes quality, one becomes anxious before news of a new release. The long wait to sniff it seemed even longer; in fact it was, because Mr. Postman took twice the usual time to make it to my doorstep with the precious sample.

Puredistance, once again, does not disappoint. Its latest creation, Black, is up to par with to the modern yet classically proportioned beauty of I, Antonia, M and Opardu. The new fragrance lives up to the “timeless elegance”motto of the house, although it feels more contemporary than its predecessors.This time the brand chose not to disclose notes or ingredients and let the focus shift to the sensations provoked by the perfume in each wearer. “Envision. Smell. Feel. Don’t analyse”is the Leitmotiv.Black was composed by nose Antoine Lie (Vice President Parfumeur Senior at Takasago),creator -among others- of the infamous and revolutionary Secretions Magnifiques. Fear not, the new Puredistance is nowhere near as polarising.

The initial impression is one of chaos: its fiery opening smolders with notes of chili pepper, cinnamon and green cardamom, soon overlapped by the bitterness of saffron and absinthe. A smoky touch of oud dominates the blend for a while and brands its character. I am not especially devout of oud but the effect here is restrained and it suffices to cast a veil of mystery. The whole effect is opaque but lightweight and refined. As I near my nose to my wrist, I can’t shake from my head images of Bogart and Bacall. The progression is as smooth as velvet. As it turns softer, well into the drydown, vanilla, tobacco and tonka ensure a plushy sweetness but the darkness never completely fades away.

As a woman, I can wear Black more comfortably than the rugged M, but  I still prefer to smell this on a beloved man or on a handsome stranger.

Black is available in only parfum concentration (25% fragrance oil); its projection and longevity are beyond reproach.
