Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis – Tapiz olfativo

El año pasado, cuando Virginia vino de visita,trajo consigo varias muestras de Parfums DelRae. Ambas conocíamos esta línea -una de las pioneras de la perfumería de nicho en Estados Unidos– pero no habíamos tenido oportunidad de probar sus fragancias hasta entonces. Su estética refinada y su chic natural fueron una grata sorpresa.

DelRae Roth, propietaria de la marca, reconoce a Francia como fuente de inspiración constante para sus fragancias. Aunque la casa está radicada en San Francisco, California, las eaux de parfum son, sin duda, galas en su enfoque olfativo. La Srta. Roth no mezquina calidad en las materias primas empleadas y tampoco parece temer a las concentraciones generosas.

Dulcemente cálido, Bois de Paradis destaca entre las primeras creaciones de la casa; fue compuesto por Michel Roudnitska (hijo del legendario Edmond) y presentado en 2002. Hace alarde de una textura rica y aterciopelada que torna casi táctiles las notas que se entretejen apretadamente. Como en un exquisito tapiz, puede virtualmente adivinarse el brillo sereno del hilo de seda.

La escena olfativa representa una rosa roja -suculenta, jugosa- plenamente florecida en medio de un bosque oscuro. Esta rosa incandescente muestra una energía expansiva que contrasta con el carácter contemplativo que luego toma la fragancia. Poco a poco, va tiñéndose con los matices nectáreos de moras e higos en los que resuena la despreocupada sensualidad del jardín del Edén. Luego nuestra flor, espolvoreada generosamente con canela, se funde en un fondo amaderado, cremoso, en el que ondula lentamente el humo de incienso*. La proyección y longevidad de esta belleza trascendente son óptimas.

Parfums DelRae Bois de Paradis – Olfactory tapestry

Last year, when Virginia came to visit, she brought with her several Parfums DelRae samples. Both of us knew about this line -one of the pioneers of niche perfumery in the US– but had not had the chance to try the fragrances until then. Their refined aesthetics and effortless chic proved a pleasant surprise.

Brand owner DelRae Roth acknowledges France as a constant source of inspiration for her creations. Although the house is based in San Francisco, California, the eaux de parfum are, without a doubt, Gallic from an olfactorily point of view (smell?). Ms. Roth doesn’t economize on the quality of the raw materials employed in her fragrances and doesn’t seem to shy away from generous concentrations either.

Sweetly warm Bois de Paradis shines as one of the earliest creations of the house; it was composed by Michel Roudnitska (son of the legendary  Edmond) and introduced in 2002. It boasts a rich velvety texture which renders its tightly woven notes almost tactile. One can virtually perceive the serene sheen of silk thread, as if this were an exquisite tapestry.

The olfactory scene depicts a red rose -fleshy, juicy- in full bloom in the middle of a dark forest. This incandescent rose shows an expansive energy that contrasts with the otherwise contemplative character of the fragrance. Little by little , it becomes tinged with the nectarous nuences of  blackberry and fig which echo the carefree sensuality of the garden of Eden. Then our flower, generously sprinkled with cinnamon, blends into a creamy woody backdrop where the smoke of incense undulates slowly.*  Projection and longevity of this transcendent beauty are optimal.

*The character the fragrance acquires in this stage strongly reminds me of my beloved Lyric Woman (it should be noted that the latter was created six years after Bois de Paradis saw the light of day).
