On The Nose Dark & Stormy – Oscuridad dulce y narcótica

Me encontraba yo recorriendo los stands del Artisan Fragance Salon en Seattle y fuí a parar ante Kenneth Cory, perfumista de On The Nose. Ya comenté en este blog por qué su marca fue una de las gratas sorpresas del evento pero en este post me explayaré en el momento en que me sumergí en Dark & Stormy.

Estaban expuestos cinco perfumes más los gift sets. Mientras el creador me iba contando de qué se trataba cada una de las fragancias, yo iba dejándome llevar por la encantadora belleza de sus composiciones. De pronto, saca una pequeña botella y me presenta algo tan reciente que no estaba exhibido, lo que le agregaba cierto misterio al asunto.

Se trataba de Dark & Stormy. Al probarlo sobre la piel experimenté unos 5 segundos en los que fuí ciega y sorda. La voz de Kenneth casi ni se escuchaba. Cerré los ojos y me encontré junto a la chimenea de un smoking room a principios de S.XX, en una noche de invierno. Ví los revestimientos de madera, los muebles de roble y los tapizados con cuero. El aura ambarada de una botella de cognac se fundía con el color de los cigarros recién encendidos.

Al volver en mí, tuve el impulso de querer beberme todo el contenido de la botella. No es para menos. Dulzura y oscuridad se fusionan inicialmente con la chispa de la cáscara de lima y el velo empolvado de la naranja amarga roja, circundados por una nube etílica de cognac verde. Clavo y canela impulsan la cremosidad gourmand del ylang ylang y de la nota de tabaco dulce del haba tonka. Un dejo medicinal de siempreviva y caña de ámbar se transforma en un matiz resinoso de mirra.

El final es glorioso y embriagante: a medida que va apareciendo una superficie de cuero compuesto por notas de cistus y musgo de roble, resurge el cognac -mucho más cálido y dulce que al principio- derramado sobre los destellos untuosos del bálsamo de tolú. Con todo ésto -sumado al plus de su gran persistencia sobre la piel y elegante sillage- no pude más que adorarlo, incondicionalmente.

On The Nose Dark & Stormy – A sweet narcotic darkness

As I was walking along the stands of the Artisan Fragrance Salon in Seattle  I found myself in front of Kenneth Cory, perfumer of the brand On The Nose . I’ve commented on this blog before why his line was one of the most pleasant surprises of the event but today I will delve into the moment I immersed myself in Dark & ​​Stormy.

Five different fragrances plus gift sets were exhibited in his stand. As the creator told me what each fragrance was about, I let myself become enchanted by the beauty of his compositions. Suddenly, he pulled out a small bottle and introduced me to something so recent that it was not even displayed on the table; this, of course added some mystery to the matter.

The mysterious fragrance was Dark & ​​Stormy. When I tried on the skin I experienced -for about 5 seconds- complete blindness and deafness. I could barely hear Kenneth’s voice. I closed my eyes and found myself close the fireplace of a smoking room on a winter night in the early twentieth century. I saw wood paneling, oak furniture and leather upholstery. The ambery aura of a cognac bottle fused itself with the color of recently lit cigars.

As I came back to my senses, I felt the impulse to drink up the full bottle. This shouldn’t be so surprising. Sweetness and darkness are initially merged with the spark of zesty lime peel and a dusty veil of red bitter orange, surrounded by a boozy cloud of green cognac. Clove and cinnamon propel the gourmand creaminess of ylang ylang and the sweet tobacco-like note of tonka bean. A medicinal hint of immortelle (helichrysum) and ginger lily disappear into a resinous myrrh hue.

The end is glorious and intoxicating:as a leathery surface composed by notes of  labdanum and oakmoss appears, a resurgent cognac  –much warmer and sweeter than it was at the beginning- is poured over unctuous flashes of Tolu Balsam. Great persistence on the skin and an elegant sillage are pluses. All of this lead me to unconditional adoration of this fragrance.
