En Argentina, el 10 de noviembre se celebra el Día de la Tradición, conmemorando el aniversario de la muerte de José Hernández, autor de una de las obras literarias más emblemáticas de nuestro país: el Martín Fierro.

La cultura y la identidad de un país siempre van auspiciadas por la tradición y el folklore mediante un proceso de captura de ciertos elementos de la cultura, su institucionalización y su repetición. Ya nacemos inmersos en “eso” que nos identifica como pertenecientes a “tal lugar”. Y por supuesto: el olfato cumple aquí un rol fundamental, es el que despierta nuestra nostalgia cuando estamos lejos de nuestra tierra natal.

Hoy compartimos con ustedes una lista de 10 perfumes en los que encontramos matices de nuestra cultura olfativa argentina.

-Ayala Moriel Parfums Gaucho es un homenaje al “cowboy sudamericano de las Pampas” con notas de yerba mate. Al principio es muy verde y fresca, como con tintes de apio. Luego huele a la yerba utilizada para la infusión típica (mate) porque se torna seca y polvorosa.

–Comme des Garçons Sequoia refleja la rusticidad e imponencia de los muebles de campo hechos con madera de algarrobo. Una cuota de clavo evoca al barniz o la cera para tratar la madera.

-Fueguia 1833 Pampa Húmeda es como sentir en la cara el viento fresco y húmedo con olor a eucaliptos. Aunque ya es un paisaje tradicional en las llanuras argentinas encontrarse con montes formados por estos árboles, en realidad fue una especie introducida  en el país a principios del S.XX.

–Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate Este complejo perfume abre herbáceo y verde con notas de cítricos, verbena, yerba mate y hojas de tomate. Luego se torna atalcada y dulzona.

-Serge Lutens A la Nuit Un jazmín indólico que nos evoca el intensísimo aroma de las enredaderas floridas en una noche cálida. Sencillo y contundente.

–Fragonard Fleur de Vanille es una vainilla que muestra distintas facetas. Cuando es cálida y casi cremosa, se acerca al aroma del arroz con leche perfumado con vainilla. Cuando aparece el benjuí se intensifica y parece oler como nuestro tradicional dulce de leche.

-Parfum d’Empire Equistrius Sus reconfortantes notas de iris, polvo de arroz y chocolate nos recuerdan la cálida piel de nuestros nobles caballos criollos.

–Naomi Goodsir Parfums Bois d’Ascese Humo de maderas que nos recuerda el olor característico del fogón y guitarreadas en noches de campo.

-Le Labo Oud 27 Gracias al cedro y al guaiac, es el olor de las botas de cuero impregnadas de olor a estiércol del establo. Cabe destacar que ésto aplica más al peón rural actual o al estanciero que sale a cabalgar pues el gaucho original no usaba botas.

-Ginestet Botrytis tiene una nota de membrillo especiado y miel. El dulce de membrillo es usado ampliamente en nuestra repostería tradicional, especialmente en facturas, pastelitos criollos y en postres.

No llegamos a incluirlo en nuestra lista, pero estamos ansiosas por probar el novísimo Montabaco, de la línea The Four Corners of the Earth de Ormonde Jayne, que encuentra su inspiración en nuestras latitudes.

Argentinian sense of smell – Our Top Ten for Tradition Day

In Argentina, on November 10th we celebrate Tradition Day, in remembrance of the anniversary of the death of José Hernández, author of the emblematic literary work Martín Fierro.

The culture and identity of a country are always supported by tradition and folklore through a process that captures certain elements of its culture, institutionalises them and repeats them. We are born immersed in ”it” that identifies us as belonging to ”such place”. And, of course: the sense of smell plays a key role here, it is the one that arises our nostalgia when we are far from our homeland.

Today we share a list of 10 perfumes in which we find hints-nuances of our olfactory culture.

-Ayala Moriel Parfums Gaucho is an homage to the “South American cowboy of the Pampas” with yerba mate notes. The opening is very green and fresh, as if tinged by celery. It later smells like the yerba used in our typical drink (maté) as it turns dry and powdery.

–Comme des Garçons Sequoia reflects the rusticness and substantialness of country furniture made out of algarrobo wood. A dose of clove evokes the varnish or wax that is used to give luster to the wood.

-Fueguia 1833 Pampa Húmeda feels like fresh and damp eucalyptus-scented breeze blowing on our faces. Even though they already are a traditional part of the landscape in the Argentinian plains, these trees species were brought to the country at the beginning of the XXth century.

–Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate This complex fragrance opens harbaceous and green with notes of citrus, verbena, yerba mate and tomato leaf. It later becomes sweetish and powdery.

-Serge Lutens A la Nuit An indolic jasmine that evokes the heady and intoxicating fragrance that wafts from the flowers that bloom in warm Summer evenings. Simple and powerful.

–Fragonard Fleur de Vanille is a multifaceted vanilla. When it is warm and almost creamy, it reminds us of arroz con leche scented with vanilla. When benzoin takes the stage it smells similar to our traditional dulce de leche.

-Parfum d’Empire Equistrius Its comforting notes of  iris, rice powder and chocolate remind us of the warm coat of our noble criollo horses.

–Naomi Goodsir Parfums Bois d’Ascese Countryside evenings. Wood smoke that reminds us of the characteristic smell of bonfires and guitars playing.

-Le Labo Oud 27 Thanks to cedarwood and guaiac, it is the smell of leather boots mixed with dung that wafts from the stables. This would only apply to present day countrymen since the original gauchos didn’t wear boots.

-Ginestet Botrytis has notes of honey and spiced quince. Quince preserves are widely used in our traditional confectionery, especially in pastries, desserts and pastelitos.

We weren’t able to include it on our list, but we are very eager to try the new Ormonde Jayne Montabaco, which was inspired by our region and is part of the The Four Corners of the Earth collection.
