El perfume no tiene género. De todos modos puede resultar difícil visualizarse como una femme fatale al usar la Lavanda Atkinson’s de papá o sentirse un super macho mientras se aplican unas gotas del No 5 que recuerda a la solterona Tía Delia.
La división de género en perfumes es relativamente reciente -siglo XIX- y está condicionada por la cultura y el marketing. Estoy segura de que Dior Homme podría haber sido un maravilloso Dior Femme de haber sido embotellado en cristal redondeado de color lavanda.
Existen muchas fragancias originalmente apuntadas a los hombres que yo -y muchas otras mujeres- disfrutamos de usar. La mayoría de ellas huelen a maderas nobles, tabaco y cuero fino.
Más de un par de vendedoras se horrorizan cuando pido probar determinado perfume. ”Pero es una fragancia masculina” murmuran. ”Seguro, puedo verle sus partecitas” pienso para mis adentros mientras usualmente respondo ”Lo sé. Es que quiero hacer un regalo”.
Hoy comparto algunos de mis preferidos:
Dior Homme Notas de iris, cacao, cuero suave y lavanda logran una fragancia dulce y reconfortante, evocadora del aroma del lápiz labial.
Eau d’Italie Bois d’Ombrie Estoy segura de que así huelen los cazadores al llegar a casa durante la temporada de jabalíes. Réstenle el jabalí. Bois d’Ombrie huele como una cabaña en el bosque, un sillón de cuero y un vaso de malta pura.
Arquiste Fleur de Louis La contraparte masculina a Infanta en Flor, Fleur de Louis es luminosa y gentil con notas de flor de naranjo, orris, jazmín y cedro.
Annick Goutal Duel Una pálida acuarela de yerba mate, orris, almizcle y cuero.
Bruno Acampora Iranzol El aceite más intrigante de la línea Acampora -y también mi favorito- abre oliendo a hongos y tierra húmeda. Más tarde muta en una vainilla oscura y resinosa. Huele como una caminata en el bosque.
Puredistance M Uno no esperaría menos que elegancia y clase de un chipre oriental compuesto por Roja Dove. Mi Chica Bond interior está perfectamente feliz con sus notas de cuero, cistus, rosa y patchouli.
Creed Green Irish Tweed Quiero comprarle una botella a mi marido sólo para poder tomarla prestada después. Sus frescas notas de hoja de violeta y verbena, combinadas con orris y ambargris siempre logran alegrarme.
Amouage Memoir Man Muy verde y muy oscuro, con notas de cuero y ajenjo, ámbar y musgo de roble, tabaco y palo santo. La menta suma una cualidad vibrante y el incienso presta su toque misterioso. Estoy segura de que Oberon usa esto.
Fueguia 1833 El Otro Tigre Sí, me animo a usar esta fiera en los casos en que tengo antojo de algo salvajemente animal. Sólo soy cuidadosa de aplicarlo muy, muy ligeramente.
Hermes Hermessence Poivre Samarcande Lo percibo simplemente como pimienta negra y maderas, pero tocadas por la varita mágica transparente de Ellena. Disfruto más de su aparente simpleza al superponerlo con otros perfumes.

Tuxedo and high heels – A top 10
Fragrance is genderless. Although it may be hard to feel like a femme fatale while wearing your father’s Atkinson’s Lavender or like a super macho man as you dab on the No 5 that reminds you of maiden Aunt Delia.
The gender division in fragrance is recent -XIX century- and conditioned by culture and marketing. I am sure Dior Homme would have made a wonderful Dior Femme if only it had been bottled in rounded lavender-tinted glass.
There are many fragrances originally targeted for men that I -and many other women- enjoy wearing. Most of them smell of noble woods, tobacco and fine leather.
More than a few salesladies listen in horror whenever I ask to try a certain perfume. ”But it is a male fragrance” they gasp. ”Sure, I can see its tiny parts” I think to myself, while I usually reply ”I know, I am just looking for a gift”.
Today, I share some of my favorites:
Dior Homme Notes of iris, cocoa, soft leather and lavender make for a sweet and comforting fragrance that evokes the scent of lipstick.
Eau d’Italie Bois d’Ombrie I am sure this is what hunters smell like when they come home during boar season. Substract the boar. Bois d’Ombrie smells like a cabin in the woods, a leather armchair and a glass of single malt.
Arquiste Fleur de Louis The masculine counterpart to Infanta en Flor, Fleur de Louis is luminous and gentle with notes of orange blossom, orris, jasmine and cedarwood.
Annick Goutal Duel A pale watercolour of maté, orris, musk and leather.
Bruno Acampora Iranzol The most intriguing oil from the Acampora line -and also my favorite- opens smelling like mushrooms and damp earth. It later morphs into a resinous dark vanilla. It smells like a walk in the woods.
Puredistance M One wouldn’t expect anything less than elegance and class from an oriental chypré composed by Roja Dove. My inner Bond Girl feels perfectly happy with its leather, labdanum, rose and patchouli notes.
Creed Green Irish Tweed I want to buy a bottle of this for my husband, if only to be able to borrow it later. Its fresh notes of violet leaf and verbena paired with orris and ambergris never fail to cheer me up.
Amouage Memoir Man Very green and very dark, with notes of leather and absinthe, amber and oakmoss, tobacco and guaiac wood. Mint adds vibrancy and frankincense lends the mysterious touch. I am sure Oberon wears this.
Fueguia 1833 El Otro Tigre Yes, I wear this beast when only something wildly animalic will do. I am just careful to apply very, very sparingly.
Hermes Hermessence Poivre Samarcande To my nose it smells simply of black pepper and woods, touched by Ellena’s transparent magic wand. I enjoy its apparent simplicity best when I layer it with other fragrances.
