Absolutamente encantadora, de risa fácil y contagiosa, Neela Vermeire es la clase de persona con la que a una le encantaría salir de copas. Es una abogada que persiguió su sueño y lanzó su propia línea de fragancias, que fue creada en colaboración con el maestro Bertrand Duchaufour.

Las tres eaux de parfum de la línea fueron inspiradas por India, la tierra natal de Neela: Trayee por el período védico, el refinadoMohur por el imperio mogol y la India bajo dominio británico y Bombay Bling, una alegre explosión de flores blancas y mangos, por la India moderna y los coloridos filmes de Bollywood. Se dice que Neela le dio a Duchaufour rienda libre para usar una costosa paleta de ingredientes y, al oler los resultados, estoy segura de que así fue.

Neela me hizo oler las tres fragancias; luego preguntó cuál me había gustado más, antes de rociarla en un pañuelito y dármelo. Trayee fue mi respuesta inmediata. Ni siquiera tuve que pensarlo. El perfume me había golpeado en un lugar inesperado. Luego de probar Trayee no logré oler nada más. No sólo por su intensidad – es verdaderamente potente- sino porque lo encontré tan perfectamente hipnótico que pasé el resto de la tarde sacando el pañuelito de la cartera y hundiendo en él mi nariz de manera intermitente.

Trayee le habla directamente al espíritu, como si hubiera sido creado por los dioses o, al menos, enviado por ellos. Una nube de jazmín, cardamomo, clavo de olor, canela y más jazmín me tomó por sorpresa. Mirra y vainilla se desplegaron lentamente, mezcladas con sándalo, incienso, oud y lo que la marca llama efectos de ganja.

Trayee se manifiesta a la vez profano y sagrado. Es un deleite para los sentidos, una mezcla orgiástica de especias, flores y maderas, una invitación al desenfreno. Esto quizás se desprenda del hecho de que muchos de sus ingredientes son considerados poderosos afrodisíacos por la aromaterapia.   Pero las volutas de humo y el misticismo de las maderas y resinas elegidas recuerdan el carácter sagrado del placer erótico en diversas culturas. No recuerdo haber olido otro perfume tan profundamente espiritual y trascendente, pero a la vez tan corpóreo.

La longevidad del Trayee es fabulosa. Dejé el pañuelo guardado en la cartera y su aroma me envolvió durante el resto del viaje.

Bonus: Las robustas botellas son recargables y agradables de contemplar y sostener. Su calidad está a la par de la del líquido que contienen.

Neela Vermeire Créations Trayee – Sacred and profane

Utterly charming, with an easy and contagious laughter, Neela Vermeire is the kind of person one would love to go out for drinks with. She is a lawyer who pursued her dream and launched her own fragrance line, which was created in collaboration with master Bertrand Duchaufour.

The three eaux de parfum in the line are inspired by Neela‘s native India: Trayee by the Vedic period, the refined Mohur by Moghul and BritishRaj India and Bombay Bling, a happy explosion of white flowers and mangoes, by modern day India and colourful Bollywood movies. It is said Neela gave Duchaufour free rein to use a costly palette of raw materials and, upon smelling the results, I am sure she did.

Neela made me sniff her three fragrances; then asked me which one I liked best, before spraying it on a handkerchief and handing it to me. Trayee was my immediate answer. I didn’t even have to think about it. The perfume had hit me somewhere unexpected.  After having sniffed Trayee I was unable to smell anything else. Not only because of its intensity – it IS potent stuff- but because I found it so perfectly hypnotic I spent the rest of the afternoon taking the handkerchief out of my handbag and burying my nose in it at regular intervals.

Trayee speaks directly to the spirit as if it had been created by the gods or, at least, sent by them. A cloud of jasmine, cardamom, clove, cinnamon and more jasmine took me by surprise.  Myrrh and vanilla unfurled slowly, mixed with sandalwood, incense, oud and what the brand calls ganja effects.

Trayee manifests itself as both profane and sacred. It  is a delight to the senses, an orgiastic blend of spices, flowers and woods, an invitation to debauchery. This probably arises from the fact that many of its ingredients are considered powerful aphrodisiacs by aromatherapy. But the tendrils of smoke and the mysticism of the chosen woods and resins remind one of the sacred character of erotic pleasure in many cultures. I don’t think I have ever sniffed a fragrance that felt so deeply spiritual and trascendental yet so corporeal.

Trayee‘s longevity is fabulous. I kept the handkerchief in my handbag and its scent haunted me for the rest of the trip.

Bonus: The hefty  bottles are refillable and a pleasure to hold and behold. Their quality is on par with the liquid they contain.
