No he visitado India -aún- pero a juzgar por los perfumes de Neela Vermeire, debe ser un lugar de belleza y profundidad supremas.

Hablé brevemente acerca de Neela y sus fragancias en mi reseña de Trayee. Es una abogada que nació en India y ahora reside en París. Lanzó Neela Vermeire Creations -una línea que evoca a su país natal- con la colaboración del nariz Bertrand Duchaufour.

Bombay Bling, inspirado por la India de hoy, resulta tan caleidoscópico como Trayee o Mohur y más colorido que una película de Bollywood. Uno debe hacer un gran esfuerzo para estar triste -o incluso mantener la seriedad- al llevarlo. Este es un perfume extrovertido; tan expansivo y alegre como la risa de Neela.

El perfume abre ligeramente verde y algo agrio ¿Alguna vez mordieron la cáscara de un mango verde?  Bombay Bling parece compartir ese sabor resinoso de la piel del mango.  Luego de unos minutos, un opulento bouquet de flores blancas entra en escena: jazmín, gardenia y tuberosa añaden su encanto de femmes fatales al alegre mango. Las notas florales comienzan a desplegarse, lentamente volviéndose más dulces y lactónicas. Es este, a mi entender, el momento más refinado del desarrollo, enaltecido por una pizca de comino que enciende un aura de sensualidad. Para entonces el blend se percibe casi táctil, como seda de tonos vibrantes perfumada con vainilla y maderas preciosas. La longevidad es excelente, aunque no nuclear como en el caso de Trayee.

No he visitado India -aún- pero cuando lo haga, seguramente sentiré que he estado allí antes.

Neela Vermeire Créations Bombay Bling – A huge, perfect fruity floral

I have never been to India -yet-  but if I am to judge by Neela Vermeire  fragrances, it must be a place of supreme beauty and depth.

I have already talked briefly about Neela and her fragrances in my review of Trayee. She is a lawyer who was born in India and now lives in Paris. She  launched Neela Vermeire Creations -a line that evokes her home country- with the collaboration of nose Bertrand Duchaufour.

Bombay Bling, inspired by present-day India, is as kaleidoscopic as Trayee or Mohur and more colourful than a Bollywood movie. One should make a big effort in order to feel blue -or even keep serious- while wearing it. This is an extroverted fragrance;  as expansive and joyful as Neela‘s laughter.

The fragrance opens slightly green and tangy. Have you ever bitten into the skin of a green mango?  Bombay Bling seems to share that resinous flavor of mango skin.  After a few minutes a lush bouquet of white flowers enters the scene: jasmine, gardenia and tuberose add their femme fatale charm to the cheerful mango. The floral notes begin to unfold, slowly becoming sweeter and lactonic. This is, to my nose, the most refined stage of the development. A light sprinkling of cumin sets an aura of sensuality aglow. The blend, by now, seems almost tactile, like bright-colored silk that has been scented with vanilla and precious woods. The longevity is excellent, but not nuclear as in the case of Trayee.

I have never been to India -yet- but when I visit, I will probably feel like I’ve been there before.

Nuevo año y un alegre ”top 10”

Esperamos que hayan comenzado un brillante, maravilloso 2013 y les deseamos abundante alegría en este Año Nuevo.

Cada nuevo año aparece ante nosotros como una página en blanco, lista para ser llenada con viajes, nueva gente y, por supuesto, nuevos perfumes…y el ocasional hallazgo vintage. 

Como estamos de ánimo celebratorio, nos gustaría compartir 10 perfumes alegres que jamás fallan a la hora de mejorar nuestro humor. Algunos nos hacen sonreír, otros nos provocan ganas de reír eufóricamente. Abarcan desde el perfecto floral frutado al unisex aromático, desde una embriagadora nube de especias a un cítrico que evoca la brisa marina. Una cosa es cierta: nos resulta imposible sentirnos tristes al olerlos.

Amouage Epic Woman Esta mélange de especias, té, rosa damascena y maderas nos hace sentir seguras e invencibles. Es un tanto majestuosa para darnos ganas de saltar de alegría, pero sin dudas nos sentimos como reinas al llevarlo.

Olivier Durbano Quartz Rose Inspirado por la piedra tradicionalmente asociada con el amor universal, aúna pomelo, una hermosa nota de rosa,  incienso y patchouli. La creación más bonita de la línea Olivier Durbano.

Vero Profumo Rubj eau de parfum Flor de naranjo, fruta de la pasión y una buena dosis de comino logran una fragancia chispeante y evocadora de delicias carnales.

Clarins Eau Dynamisante Herbácea, aromática y perfectamente unisex  esta ”agua de tratamiento” honra su nombre. Discreta como es, cosecha elogios donde quiera que vayamos, incluídos el gimnasio y reuniones de trabajo.

Eau d’Italie Un Bateau pour Capri Este eau de parfum hiper femenino, con sus suaves notas de rosa y durazno, evoca paseos a lo largo de la sinuosa costiera amalfitana.

Bond No.9 Chinatown Gardenia, cardamomo y flor de durazno estallan como fuegos de artificio en esta fragancia, una de las más originales de la casa. 

Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Vermeille Un dulce bouquet de rosa y violeta de carácter empolvado, como azúcar impalpable. Las flores parecen descansar en un colchón de tnka y vainilla.

Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling Una eufórica explosión de mango y flores blancas. Vibrante, dulce y muy vivaz, esta creación de Duchaufour se cuenta entre las mejores de 2012.

Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale Logra recrear un cálido día de verano en la misma manera en que lo haría una pintura impresionista.

Lorenzo Villoresi Aura Maris Una fragancia que rezuma no del olor del Mediterráneo mismo sino de su brisa revitalizante. Recuerdos de vaccaiones en una botella. No queremos que jamás nos falte.

New year and a joyful top 10

We hope you have started a bright, wonderful 2013 and wish you much joy in this New Year.

Every new year appears to us like a blank page, ready to be filled with travels, new people and of course new fragrances…and the occasional vintage find. 

As we are in a celebratory mood, we would like to share 10 happy  fragrances  that never fail to lift our moods. Some of them make us smile, some make us want to burst with laughter. They range from the perfect fruity floral to the aromatic unisex, from an intoxicating cloud of spices to a citrus that evokes the seaside breeze. One thing is certain: we just find it impossible to feel blue while wearing them.

Amouage Epic Woman This mélange of spices, tea, rosa damascena and woods make us feel assured and invincible. It might be a tad too regal to make us jump with joy, but we sure feel like queens when we wear it.

Olivier Durbano Quartz Rose Inspired by a stone associated with universal love, it blends grapefruit, a beautiful rose note, frankincense and patchouli. The prettiest creation from the Olivier Durbano line.

Vero Profumo Rubj eau de parfum Orange flower, passion fruit and a good dose of cumin make for a sparkly fragrance evocative of carnal delights.

Clarins Eau Dynamisante Herbaceous, aromatic and perfectly unisex this Treatment Fragrance honors its name. Discreet as it is, it still gathers us  compliments everywhere we go, from the gym to business meetings.

Eau d’Italie Un Bateau pour Capri This hyper feminine eau de parfum, with its soft peach and rose notes, evokes drives along the winding costiera amalfitana.

Bond No.9 Chinatown Gardenia, cardamom and peach flower explode like fireworks in this fragrance, one of the most original from the house.

Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Vermeille A sweet, powdery -as in icing sugar- rose and violet bouquet. The flowers seem to rest on a tonka and vanilla bed.

Neela Vermeire Bombay Bling An euphoric explosion of mango and white flowers. Vibrant, sweet and very much alive, this Duchaufour creation is among the very best of 2012.

Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale It re-creates a  warm Summer day in the same way   an impressionist painting would.

Lorenzo Villoresi Aura Maris A fragrance that reeks not of the Mediterranean itself but of its exhilarating breeze and sunshine. Holiday memories in a bottle. We hope we never run out of it.

Perlas y seda – Nuestro ”top 10”

Una verdadera dama no luce frágil y desprotegida sino que ostenta un porte gallardo y elegante. Es una mujer segura y con presencia, pero que se mantiene lejos del escándalo. Sin poses acartonadas, demuestra gracia, firmeza y buenos modales.  Pensar un look ladylike nos trae a la mente personalidades tan disímiles como Catherine Deneuve, nuestra Victoria Ocampo o Diana, Princesa de Gales.

Hoy compartimos con ustedes 10 perfumes discretos, femeninos y clásicos que evocan la impronta ladylike. Aldehídos, acordes chipre y flores predominan en estas composiciones que rezuman estilo y corrección.

–Tableau de Parfums Miriam Un floral aldehídico de gracia inmensa que a muchos les recuerda la versión pre-reformulación de Chanel No 5. Preferimos mucho más la suavidad y el ligero dulzor de Miriam. Este elegante perfume debería lucirse con perlas.

-Balmain Jolie Madame Cuero suave y violetas tornan a esta fragancia tan femenina y segura como una falda lápiz. Procuren encontrar la versión vintage si es posible.

-Amouage Dia Versátil, puede fácilmente transitar del día a la noche sin jamás quedar fuera de lugar. Este bouquet aldehídico mezcla rosas, peonías y ciclamen. El eau de parfum se siente como pura seda sobre nuestra piel. Sólo podemos imaginar cuán magnífico debe ser el extrait.

–Eau d’Italie Un Bateau pour Capri Perfecto para los fines de semana y menos polarizante que otras propuestas de la casa, este floral frutado es refinado y está ejecutado bellamente. La comodidad y clase de una camisa de lino blanco.

-Neela Vermeire Mohur Té y dulces en India luego de un partido de polo. Rosas, cuero, oud y una pizca de jabón -magistralmente orquestados por Bertrand Duchaufour- narran una hermosa historia. El equivalente olfativo a un bolso de cuero suave heredado de Mamá.

–Editions de Parfums Iris Poudre Aldehídos, iris, vainilla y haba tonka logran un eau de parfum tan suave y elegante como un chal de cachemira.

-Hermes Caleche vintage Correcto, contenido, pero con un erotismo que subyace su superficie estructurada, como un sostén de encaje asomando bajo  una blusa blanca. Traten de encontrar una botella vintage ya que la versión actual tiene poco y nada que ver con el original.

-Van Cleef & Arpels First Jean-Claude Ellena en todo su esplendor entes de su período minimalista. El extracto vintage es celestial, pero la versión actual es suficientemente decente. Opulento jazmín indólico rodeado por una nube de aldehídos. Evoca un tapado de suave piel blanca  (sintética, por supuesto).

-Chanel Les Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon Un ”nuevo chipre” -sin musgo de roble-  que aúna suavemente pimienta negra, flores, patchouli y cistus. Rico y suntuoso pero no excesivo. Estamos seguras de que el oro líquido debe oler así.

-Xerjoff Damarose Una rosa clásica perfecta y lujosa. Es elegante y correcta, pero su dulzor jugoso suma la dosis justa de picardía, como medias de seda con costura negra.

Pearls and silk – Our top 10

A true lady doesn’t appear fragile and vulnerable but chooses to carry herself with poise and elegance. She is an assured woman with strong presence who prefers to stay away from scandal. Far from stuffiness, she shows grace, strength and manners.  Picturing a  ladylike look brings to our mind such dissimile people as Catherine Deneuve, our Victoria Ocampo or Diana, Princess of Wales.

Today we would like to share 10 perfumes which -discreet, feminine and classic- bear the ladylike mark. Aldehydes, chypre accords and flowers dominate these compositions which exude style and propriety.

–Tableau de Parfums Miriam An immensely graceful aldehydic floral that reminds some people of pre-reformulation Chanel No 5. We much prefer Miriam‘s softness and slight sweetness. This elegant fragrance should be worn with pearls.

-Balmain Jolie Madame Soft leather and violets make this fragrance as feminine and confident as feminine as a pencil skirt. Get the vintage version if you can.

-Amouage Dia Versatile, it can easily transition from day to night without ever seeming out of place. This aldehydic bouquet blends roses, peonies and cyclamen. The eau de parfum feels like pure silk on our skin. We can only imagine how gorgeous the extrait must be.

–Eau d’Italie Un Bateau pour Capri Perfect for weekends and less polarizing than other offerings from the house, this fruity floral is refined and  beautifully done. As easy and classy as a white linen shirt.

-Neela Vermeire Mohur Tea and pastries in India after a polo match. Roses, leather, oud and a hint of soap -masterfully arranged by Bertrand Duchaufour- tell a beautiful story. The olfactory equivalent of a soft leather handbag inherited from Mother.

–Editions de Parfums Iris Poudre Aldehydes, iris, vanilla and tonka bean make for an eau de parfum as soft and elegant as a cashmere wrap.

-Hermes Caleche vintage Self possessed, restrained but with an eroticism that underlies its structured surface, like a lace bra peeking under a white shirt. Try to get a vintage bottle as the current version has little or nothing to do with the original.

-Van Cleef & Arpels First Jean-Claude Ellena in full splendor before his minimalist period. The vintage extrait is heavenly but the current version is decent enough. Opulent indolic jasmine surrounded by a cloud of aldehydes. It evokes soft white fur (fake, of course).

-Chanel Les Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon A ”new chypre” -no oakmoss-  that seamlessly blends black pepper, florals, patchouli and labdanum. Rich and smooth but not over the top. We are sure liquid gold must smell like this.

-Xerjoff Damarose A perfect and luxurious classic rose. It is elegant and proper but its juicy sweetness adds just the right amount of naughtiness, like back-seamed silk stockings.

Neela Vermeire Créations Trayee – Sagrado y profano

Absolutamente encantadora, de risa fácil y contagiosa, Neela Vermeire es la clase de persona con la que a una le encantaría salir de copas. Es una abogada que persiguió su sueño y lanzó su propia línea de fragancias, que fue creada en colaboración con el maestro Bertrand Duchaufour.

Las tres eaux de parfum de la línea fueron inspiradas por India, la tierra natal de Neela: Trayee por el período védico, el refinadoMohur por el imperio mogol y la India bajo dominio británico y Bombay Bling, una alegre explosión de flores blancas y mangos, por la India moderna y los coloridos filmes de Bollywood. Se dice que Neela le dio a Duchaufour rienda libre para usar una costosa paleta de ingredientes y, al oler los resultados, estoy segura de que así fue.

Neela me hizo oler las tres fragancias; luego preguntó cuál me había gustado más, antes de rociarla en un pañuelito y dármelo. Trayee fue mi respuesta inmediata. Ni siquiera tuve que pensarlo. El perfume me había golpeado en un lugar inesperado. Luego de probar Trayee no logré oler nada más. No sólo por su intensidad – es verdaderamente potente- sino porque lo encontré tan perfectamente hipnótico que pasé el resto de la tarde sacando el pañuelito de la cartera y hundiendo en él mi nariz de manera intermitente.

Trayee le habla directamente al espíritu, como si hubiera sido creado por los dioses o, al menos, enviado por ellos. Una nube de jazmín, cardamomo, clavo de olor, canela y más jazmín me tomó por sorpresa. Mirra y vainilla se desplegaron lentamente, mezcladas con sándalo, incienso, oud y lo que la marca llama efectos de ganja.

Trayee se manifiesta a la vez profano y sagrado. Es un deleite para los sentidos, una mezcla orgiástica de especias, flores y maderas, una invitación al desenfreno. Esto quizás se desprenda del hecho de que muchos de sus ingredientes son considerados poderosos afrodisíacos por la aromaterapia.   Pero las volutas de humo y el misticismo de las maderas y resinas elegidas recuerdan el carácter sagrado del placer erótico en diversas culturas. No recuerdo haber olido otro perfume tan profundamente espiritual y trascendente, pero a la vez tan corpóreo.

La longevidad del Trayee es fabulosa. Dejé el pañuelo guardado en la cartera y su aroma me envolvió durante el resto del viaje.

Bonus: Las robustas botellas son recargables y agradables de contemplar y sostener. Su calidad está a la par de la del líquido que contienen.

Neela Vermeire Créations Trayee – Sacred and profane

Utterly charming, with an easy and contagious laughter, Neela Vermeire is the kind of person one would love to go out for drinks with. She is a lawyer who pursued her dream and launched her own fragrance line, which was created in collaboration with master Bertrand Duchaufour.

The three eaux de parfum in the line are inspired by Neela‘s native India: Trayee by the Vedic period, the refined Mohur by Moghul and BritishRaj India and Bombay Bling, a happy explosion of white flowers and mangoes, by modern day India and colourful Bollywood movies. It is said Neela gave Duchaufour free rein to use a costly palette of raw materials and, upon smelling the results, I am sure she did.

Neela made me sniff her three fragrances; then asked me which one I liked best, before spraying it on a handkerchief and handing it to me. Trayee was my immediate answer. I didn’t even have to think about it. The perfume had hit me somewhere unexpected.  After having sniffed Trayee I was unable to smell anything else. Not only because of its intensity – it IS potent stuff- but because I found it so perfectly hypnotic I spent the rest of the afternoon taking the handkerchief out of my handbag and burying my nose in it at regular intervals.

Trayee speaks directly to the spirit as if it had been created by the gods or, at least, sent by them. A cloud of jasmine, cardamom, clove, cinnamon and more jasmine took me by surprise.  Myrrh and vanilla unfurled slowly, mixed with sandalwood, incense, oud and what the brand calls ganja effects.

Trayee manifests itself as both profane and sacred. It  is a delight to the senses, an orgiastic blend of spices, flowers and woods, an invitation to debauchery. This probably arises from the fact that many of its ingredients are considered powerful aphrodisiacs by aromatherapy. But the tendrils of smoke and the mysticism of the chosen woods and resins remind one of the sacred character of erotic pleasure in many cultures. I don’t think I have ever sniffed a fragrance that felt so deeply spiritual and trascendental yet so corporeal.

Trayee‘s longevity is fabulous. I kept the handkerchief in my handbag and its scent haunted me for the rest of the trip.

Bonus: The hefty  bottles are refillable and a pleasure to hold and behold. Their quality is on par with the liquid they contain.

Pitti Fragranze – Primeras impresiones

Me siento privilegiada de haber asistido a Pitti Fragranze.  No sucede a menudo que una pase el día entero olisqueando los perfumes más refinados (incluyendo algunos que aún no han sido lanzados) o vea a  Chandler Burr o sea presentada al maestro Bertrand Duchaufour. Realmente se sintió como una visita al País de las Maravillas. 

Luego de intercambiar algunas palabras con  Andy Tauer entendí por qué resulta tan querido por su cálida personalidad como admirado por sus creaciones. Disfruté de la risa contagiosa de la fabulosa Neela Vermeire y admiré la impactante belleza italiana de Sonia Acampora. Me reencontré con los imposiblemente encantadores Marina Sersale y Sebastian Alvarez-Murena, conversé con la inspiradora Vero Kern y me alegré de ver a nuestro país presente en el stand de Fueguia 1833. También pasé cerca de una hora hablando con Carlos Huber, cuya pasión por los perfumes verdaderamente me conmovió.

 Tengo la intención de escribir más acerca de  Pitti Fragranze pronto, pero but ahora me gustaría compartir algunos de mis descubrimientos fragantes.

Esta lista -de ninguna manera extensiva- incluye algunas de las fragrancias que más me gustaron en la feria (algunas son nuevas, otras sólo nuevas para mí):

-Mi gourmand preferido: Arquiste Anima Dulcis (¿Quién diría que el barroco podría sentirse tan ligero?)

-Mi verde preferido: Vero Profumo Mito, que es tan refrescante como dormir una siesta bajo la sombra de una magnolia gigante.

-Mi perfume marino preferido: Lorenzo Villoresi Aura Maris. Así es como huele la costa de Sicilia. Estoy enamorada.

-Mi rosa clásica favorita: Xerjoff Damarose

-Mi aldehídico preferido: Tableau de Parfums (Andy Tauer) Miriam, al que muchos comparan con Chanel No.5 pre-reformulación.

-Mi chipre preferido: Amouage Jubilation 25. Una sobredosis de comino lo vuelve aún más regio. Mención especial para Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Chypree.

-Mi perfume especiado favorito: Neela Vermeire Trayee. Guardo un pañuelito empapado con esta mezcla hipnótica en mi cartera.

-Mi fragancia masculina preferida (en términos generales): Arquiste Fleur de Louis. Es increíblemente luminoso y refinado.

 -Mi fragancia femenina preferida (en términos generales): Casamorati Dama Bianca

-La línea de imagen más cool: Naomi Goodsir Parfums

-Mis fragancias favoritas para la casa: la vela de Fueguia 1833 en Guayacán  (huele como pura oleorresina de palo santo), la línea Cire Trudon y los difusores nuevos de Eau d’Italie (me gustó especialmente Fig & Berry por su preciso balance entre amargo y dulce)

Pitti Fragranze – First impressions

I feel privileged to have attended Pitti Fragranze.  Just how often does one spend an entire day sniffing the finest perfumes in existence (including some that haven’t been launched yet) or sees Chandler Burr or is introduced to master Bertrand Duchaufour? It was a visit to fragrance -wonderland. 

After exchanging a few words with  Andy Tauer I understood why he is loved for his warm personality as well as admired for his creations. I enjoyed the contagious laughter of the fabulous Neela Vermeire and admired the striking Italian beauty of Sonia Acampora. I re-encountered the impossibly charming Marina Sersale and Sebastian Alvarez-Murena, talked with the inspiring Vero Kern and felt happy to see our country present at the Fueguia 1833 stand. I also spent the best part of an hour talking to Carlos Huber, whose passion for fragrance positively moved me.

 I intend to write more about Pitti Fragranze soon but I would now like to share some of my fragrant discoveries.

This list -by no means extensive- includes some of the fragrances I loved best  at the fair (some are new, some just new to me):

-My favorite gourmand: Arquiste Anima Dulcis (who knew baroque could feel so light?)

-My favorite green: Vero Profumo Mito, which is as cooling as taking a nap under the shade of a huge magnolia tree.

-My favorite marine fragrance: Lorenzo Villoresi Aura Maris. This is what the Sicilian seashore smells like. I am in love.

-My favorite classical rose: Xerjoff Damarose

-My favorite aldehydic: Tableau de Parfums (Andy Tauer) Miriam, which many people compare to pre-reformulation Chanel No.5

-My favorite chypre: Amouage Jubilation 25. A cumin overdose makes it even more gorgeous. Special mention for Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Chypree.

-My favorite spicy fragrance: Neela Vermeire Trayee. I keep a handkerchief doused with this hypnotic blend in my handbag.

-My favorite masculine fragrance (in general terms): Arquiste Fleur de Louis. This is incredibly luminous and refined.

-My favorite feminine fragrance (in general terms): Casamorati Dama Bianca

-The line I found most fashionable: Naomi Goodsir Parfums

-My favorite home fragrances: Fueguia 1833 Guayacán candle (it smells like pure palo santo oleoresin), the Cire Trudon line and Eau d’Italie new diffusers (I liked the Fig & Berry scent the best because of its precise balance between bitter and sweet)
