La costa oeste norteamericana parece ser un terreno fértil para el surgimiento de nuevos y talentosos perfumistas, como Maggie Mahboubian. Ella lanzó su marca, Parfums Lalun, el año pasado en el último L.A. Artisan Fragrance Salon. Desafortunadamente, en aquella oportunidad no pude conocer sus creaciones per sí fue posible unos meses después en San Francisco.
En esta colección cada fragancia es una historia con un principio, desarrollo y un final. Creo que eso es lo que siempre me sorprende en una composición, más allá incluso de la belleza. O tal vez allí resida la belleza… no estoy segura. Como sea, en esta reseña me planteo otro dilema de conceptos.
Mientras olía Phenomene Verte encontré que a menudo solemos decir “Oh, es una fragancia verde” o “Este perfume pertenece a la familia verd” como si ésto fuera suficiente para definirlos. Pero ¿ qué significa “verde” en perfumería? En realidad, puede ser fresco o seco y puede aludir a pasto o a hojas o a arvejas o a hierbas aromáticas. Comparten lo “verde” pero son bastante diferentes entre sí.
Así que, en este caso, estamos hablando de una fragancia de un verde profundo, de hojas y hierbas. Es un eau de toilette con un espíritu fresco pero soleado. Abre con notas de tomillo, laurel, romero y artemisa. Aunque la yerba mate no esté listada como ingrediente, confieso que lo relaciono con ella todo el tiempo. Huele como la reconfortante y deliciosa infusión típica en mi país, Argentina.
Diez minutos después de aplicar Phenomene Verte sobre mi piel, se vuelve azucarado: la amielada magia del jazmín del país, el ámbar y el absoluto de lavanda está trabajando. Hay también una pincelada terrosa por el cistus y el vetiver, que le agrega un poco de sequedad -casi “polvorosidad”- pero no llega a ensuciar la composición.
La casa trabaja con ingredientes naturales y esa es la razón por la cual el olor de sus productos no son de larga duración. Pero esa -para varias personas- “desventaja” se compensa con una fusión perfecta con la piel y con una bella historia perfumada de verde.

Parfums Lalun Phenomene Verte – Not just any old shade of green
The American West Coast is a fertile ground for new talented perfumers like Maggie Mahboubian. She launched her own brand, Parfums Lalun, in 2012 at the latest L.A. Artisan Fragrance Salon. On that opportunity I was unfortunately unable to try her creations but I managed to to do so a few months later, in San Francisco.
Every fragrance in this collection is a story with a beginning, a middle and end. I think that it is what always surprise me in a composition, even beyond its beauty. Or maybe that is precisely its beauty… I’m not sure. However, in this review I’m wondering about another concepts dilemma.
While smelling Phenomene Verte I realized that we often say “Oh, it’s a green fragrance” or “This perfume belongs to green family” as if that were enough to define them. But, what does “green” mean in perfumery? Actually, it can be fresh or dry and can allude to grass or leaves, green beans or herbs. All of them are sharing this green aspect but they are quite different from each other.
So, in this case, we are talking about a fragrance which is herbaceous and about deep green leaves. It’s an eau de toilette with a fresh but sunny spirit. It opens with thyme, bay leaf, rosemary and artemisia notes. Although yerbamate is not listed as ingredient, I confess that at all times I link the scent with it. It smells like the delicious and heartwarming infusion typical of my country, Argentina.
Ten minutes after applying Phenomene Verte on my skin it becomes sugary: the honeyed magic of jasmine grandiflorum, amber and lavender absolute is working. There is also a hue of soil because of labdanum (cistus) and vetiver, they add a little bit of dryness -almost “dustiness”- but that does not turn the composition dirty.
This house works solely with natural raw materials and that’s the reason why the smell of their products isn’t very long-lasting. But that which could mean a “disadvantage” for some people is compensated with a perfect fusion on the skin and a beautiful green-scented story.
